I am unable to find files to open with software programs I have installed.
I select the File menu and select Open, then browse to the location where the file I want is located.
But instead of seeing the file, all I get is a blank space like that location was completely empty. Other folders in there may appear for further browsing. But I don't see a single file or document to select for opening with the software program.

I first experienced this with an image editing software, then later with two other audio editing software.
At first I thought it was the software, but now I think it might be the computer.

Only that this is the second computer I've tried.
The first was an old HP i5 laptop with windows 10.
This one is another used Dell i7 also with windows 10.

I'd planned to buy a new one but lockdown has ruined my finances.

Please advise.

Do you mean windows explorer?
Yes I do, but the explorer window that the software opens does not show anything. Meanwhile, the window that a browser opens in order to upload a file shows everything as normal.

I just have this problem with programs installed on the computer.
I've also tried changing the file type from the default types that the software expects to 'All files'. And still nothing shows up.
