Hello guys,
First off, Merry Christmas everyone!
Apologies if I've posted this in the incorrect forum, I just wasn't able to find too comprehensive an answer.

I'm playing around with some spare Lenovo laptop I had lying around for a little DIY project I'm working on.

Does anyone have any idea on where abouts I should be soldering on two wires so I would be able to hook up an external power button or switch?

This is a photo of what's directly under the laptops OME power push button.

Many thanks in advance for any advice or input. :)

Follow the traces. You can see the right side of the button bottom is a large trace that goes across the top of the board, where it says H5. The other point on the button hits that solder joint at the very top of the round.

Can't be SURE about this because we don't yet have the second photo, and this is a laptop, not a desktop. BUT for a DESKTOP PC, the On / Off switch is merely a momentary-contact switch (normally open) just like a doorbell button. It simply shorts together two contacts when pushed, then opens again when you release the pressure. Any switch like that could be connected in parallel with the mobo switch in your laptop IF it is a simple two-contact switch. Polarity os not an issue for this.

Oops sorry! I didn't realise that the reply post was saved as a draft on my phone!
The round copper bit is the underside of the motherboard

Solder joint to the top of the round copper and the big piece of metal with the hole in it all the way on the corner (that one solder to the metal, not the solder joint). That's the + and - traces

Ok so just to make sure I understood;
I'll be soldering a wire onto the round copper thing and another wire onto on of the metal screw holes holding the DC barrel connecter in?

Thanks for the help guys! It's my first time doing anything like this :)

Ohh ok I think I see, I'm following the darker blue line. So the picture with the green circles is correct.
Thank you very much for your help & enjoy the holidays!! 😁
