I have an ASUS RT-56U main router in the living room connected via paired ethernet powerlines to a TL-WR841N (repeater, set IP outside the range of the ASUS, no DHCP) in my room, using Comcast internet. I did this to extend the wireless range w/out using wires. All other devices connected to the wireless network have no issues at all, whether my nexus 7 tablet, my OneplusOne phone, roommates' laptops, my girlfriend's laptop.
Now the issue is this: Only my laptop, lenovo ideapad Z580 win 8.1, has issues with staying "connected" in my room. Every once in a while, pretty regularly, my internet ability just hangs and dies. I'll try to connect to a website and it's unable to do so. My wifi bar shows full bars, with an IP address. Via command prompt, I am unable to ping any outside websites, whether through actual name (www.google.com) or its DNS. I can, however, ping both of the routers, indicating that I am indeed "connected" to both routers. I can also log into both of their UIs with my laptop. For instance, on the Asus main router, I can even see that my laptop is indeed connected to the wifi network and that it has an IP. Yet I cannot access anything outside of the network. Releasing the IP and renewing it does nothing. This occurs regardless of connected via power cord or battery. The timing is irregular, sometimes I can be at home on the internet for hours before it occurs, but when it does, it happens like clockwork almost every 7-9 minutes or something to that effect.
The only simple fix I have thus far is to click on the wifi bar, turn off the wifi, and then turn it back on. Tada, I am back on the internet.
I have two videos on youtube.

Very mysteriously, my laptop at the university does not exhibit this sort of strange behavior, nor at my girlfriend's place. I can be at the university connected for hours, streaming tv, or studying and never have to turn off my wifi and turn it back on just to reestablish some sort of connectivity to the internet, even though there is full wifi signal.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this seems to be a very laptop specific issue? During these "events", other devices have ZERO issues, only my laptop. This never happens on any other network outside of my room. Occasionally, occasionally, it's happened out in the living room when I'm connected through the main ASUS router, but 98% of the time it's when I'm in my room. Yes I have a quick fix, but it is annoying and I'd like to get to the bottom of this.
