Hey All,
The spinning disk of poo in my laptop failed after just one short lived year, so I'm currently on a search for a new hard drive.

I like the speed and reliability of ssds since i have my laptop in a backpack jetting around town but i also need lots storage for my graduate work and steam games. Despite a full time job, grad school has bled me dry of most of my hard earned money so I don't have a ton to spend right now.

There is currently a promotion going on right now putting the Crucial M550 512GB SSD at $170. It seems to be a fast reliable contender though the sudden drop of $100 or so in price has me a little skeptical. It would be smaller than the 750GB WD Black disk it is replacing but not too much of a hit. Western Digital has also introduced the Black2 dual drive with a entry level 120GB SSD and 1TB 5400rpm HDD. At $150 its not much more than a standard HDD but it isn't too much cheaper than the Crucial M550. I worry about reliability as I seem to have had horrible luck with Western Digital disks the past 5 years with this being the 3 WD disk I've had fail, though, my two WD 80GB ATA133 drives from 2001 are still kickin' it error free.

I here to ask what the good folks at Toms Hardware, what would you suggest? My primary concerns are reliability and size foremost, followed by speed and price.

Thanks for your help,
D
