I'm having all sorts of problems OCing. I started with an Asus p5B prem vista ed., I recently upgraded to the evga 790i Ultra. Speaking of, I should throw out my specs:

EVGA 790i Ultra SLI
Q6600@ 2.4 (stock)
OCZ Reaper DDR3 rated @ 1600
2 EVGA 9800 GTX + (one superclocked, one std)
Vista Home Prem 32

I've tried similar settings from a few posts I've found, it sounds as if many people can get up to 3.0Ghz. I'd like to hit 3.4, but I would settle for 3.0. I can get it to post and load into windows but then it wants to freeze on me. I did a system restore due to that, even with defaulting the bios the problem continued. That lead me to believe there was a problem with some extra Nvidia physX crap I was playing around with. I restored to the point right before that and it works fine now. I guess my first plan of action will be to attempt to reach that 3.0 point again, I made it once but it wasn't very stable. If I can boot in and run I must be close. Plus, that will tell me if my OCing was playing a part in the freezing or if it was the garbage I installed.

I'm not sure about the hardware, particularily the ram choice. If anybody can verify it's validity I'd appreciate it. I know I'm not offering much information now, but I figure I need to try and get to that semi-stable 3.0 first and if there's a known mismatch with my hardware it'd be nice to try and find out before wasting a bunch of ya'lls time! XD Of course, in the mean time, I'll try and follow along with what others have done here. I could be one of the unlucky ones with that q6600, it has g0 stepping, but not all processors are created to OC equally. 🙁

hi guys, I have :

xfx nforce 790i sli ultra (*** board)
2 x 2gb ocz 1800 ddr3 sli ready
320gb samsung sata
ati 4870 1gb gddr5

I am using the latest drivers :

15.35 nforce chipset
9.8 ati catalyst

my computer was freezes lots of times per day and I tried lots of bios configurations, but the first post gived me some clues and I think that my problem was resolved too.

I made the same modifications as he did and altered all voltages increasing 0.05 or 0.1 in all itens, like cpu, fsb , npc , spc, etc , just the memory I put 1.725 that is just a little bit after 1.7v.

Until now my computer didn´t freeze anymore, and the performance is quite good.

I just wanna know what he drinks , because I wanna drink it too.

I am computer technician and could not solve this problem alone.

Thanks to you all, and I hope that I helped someone too.

Finally , I know that my english is very bad ok.

@Lord_Hades

Dude, I am forever grateful for your post. I run a small business out of my garage building custom PC's. For the first time I am building a system for a customer that has an EVGA 790i MB and until your post I was starting to get a migraine. It came, out-of-box, with the P08 BIOS. If that wasn't enough, stepping down to P07 and P06 didn't solve it. Your list of memory voltages, timings, and especially the Black-slot DIMM recommendation did the trick! Ended up on P07 with your settings, ran prime95 and OCCT tests twice successfully. I OC'ed it to 3.6ghz (from 3.0ghz E8400) and so far so good. I have installed literally hundreds of boards but like I said this was my first dealings with a 790i. Again, I greatly appreciate your post.

Take care!

Hello All,

I also have an EVGA 790i Ultra P09 Bios was using P07. I run a Q9550 with a Prolimatech Megashadow, 2 slipstream fans in a push/pull setup and Patriot PC16000 2000MHz memory 4Gbs in the black slots Linked and in Sync Mode. I have used timings of 8-8-8-22 for ever up to a 4.22GHz clock and want to increase and get to 4.3Ghz for personal etification and because I have been told it can't be done on air.
I can post @ 4.3 and even boot to Windows (using Win 7 64Bit) but cannot get to the desktop it just reboots. I have tried loosening the timings to 9-9-9-24 and it either posts or I get the long beep. :fou: Has anyone run the memory above 2000MHz and what timings have been used?
Thanks for any info.

I hear ya on that. Mines mostly stable, I've had 3 lockups in 6 months (acceptable). I plan to start OC'ing via FSB and see if stability remains as long as 1:1 is held. But for the most part, voltage increases + 1:1 FSB-RAM ratio seems to do the most good.

Hi guys, now it's 4 days that i've tried to fix this damn problem about freeze and i still have it.

My component list:

Motherboard: XFX nForce 790i Ultra Sli
CPU: Intel 2 Quad core Q9650
Memory Ram: OCZ3G18002G (2x2)
GPU: Sparkle Geforce GTX 275
Power Supply: 700w
HDD: WDC WD 15 00 HLFS (10000 Rpm 150 GB) <--- this is the OS hard disk and i have other 2 that contain files....

Now... the freeze start when i've changed my Cpu Intel 2 Duo core e8600 to Intel 2 Quad core q9650 the freeze it's just like your PLZ HELPPPPPPPPpp i'm really pissed off about this problem guys... really i don't wanna change cpu or motherboard becuase i like it boths and because i've read that some1 have succeed to fix this kind of issue... i've noticed that many of this issue it's combined about this 2 pieces nForce 790i Ultra sli and a Quad core what i have to do

Hi everbody,

I have these components:

Q9450
Zotac NForce 790i Supreme
Kingston Hyperx DDR3 2000MHz 2x2GB CL9
Zotac GTX295
Cooler Master Real Power Pro 1000W

Running Win7 Pro x86 with P07 BIOS

I've been having some problems with my RAM settings. I cannot make the system stable. It can sometimes boot, but sometimes cannot. I tried every settings above that you said makes the system stable but could not make mine :)

Any help is appreciated.

Hi fellow 790i guys
I ved put my head threw walls broke toes on the bed and pulled what little bit of hair i had left in my head with the frezzing stuff. what u guys say about uping volts and timmings sound like might work i know when i uped my timmings the frezzing seemed to not happen as offten. here is what im runnig

EVGA 790i
Q8200
Mushkin blackline ram 7-7-7-20 timmings
8800 ultra video
seagate 1TB hard drive
850 watt corsair

now i have bought and change power supplie and ram but still frezzes i have a video card comiing but it has to be a hardware issue or bois i think

i will try upping the volts on the ram and cpu and i will post back with results..

Fingers Crossed

Hi I really need help, I've been strugeling since last year september pls pls.

my Rig:

Motherboard: xfx 790i ultra sli

Ram: corsair xms3 4x 1g

processer: intel(R) core(TM2) Qaud Q6600 2.4ghz

Graphics card: xfx 9800 gx2 black edition

I exprienced ramdom freezes, while playing games, surfing the net or just doing nothing.
I tried some of the advice you guys posted on this site but still no cigar.

You guys hav no idee how annoying it is, I tried taking my rig back for a refund, but they find nothing wrong with the hardware.

please help I'm on the vurge of using a sleg hammer on my rig.
please I'm going insain.

SUCCESS! After almost two years (May 2008) I have my (once) beastly machine working. :pt1cable:

The solution, in the end, was a very simple one that eluded me for quite a (very long) while.

My specs:
Motherboard: XFX 790i Ultra SLI
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 2.5GHz
RAM: Patriot DDR3 PC3-10666 1333 4x2GB
Graphics: 2x NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT
PSU: Enermax Galaxy 1000W
HD: 3x 500GB WD SATA 3gb/s

I tried all of the solutions in this thread, to no avail. I set everything manually, changed voltages, tweaked settings, unmount graphics cards, ran memory tests, booted from live CDs (still froze!) and more. The computer would randomly freeze up - no blue screen, no error message, just a total lock up - and would require a hard reset. Like many have said, it would happen randomly. Sometimes even while the computer was asleep with the screen saver on.

In the end the only issue was MEMORY TIMING. Nothing else mattered. It was not the CPU, graphics card, RAID device or even RAM speeds - just the timing. You need to find the memory timing and voltage specs for your specific RAM. In many cases it is something like 7-7-7-9 and the voltage is 1.5V or higher. In my case there was a part to this issue I wasn't seeing before: when you find the correct memory timing, it is only appropriate for ONE KIT. In most cases that means the timing and voltage settings will only work if you use TWO sticks, NOT FOUR.

After over a hundred hours of troubleshooting, scouring message boards and running tests, the solution was setting a few variables in BIOS and only using two sticks of RAM (placed in the black memory slots, not the grey ones). After that I ran Prime95, walked away for a few hours and came back to find it running happily. Problem fixed!

Oh, and the settings for me were:

FSB Clock mode: Linked
Memory Ratio: Sync mode
tCL: 7
tRCD: 7
tRP: 7
tRAS: 9

Command per clock: 2T

Memory Voltage: 1.75V

Everything else was set to default, but you can probably tweak it once you know things are working :)

Good luck!

hey everything is stable so far.

i enjoy playing games until i almost fall asleep for once lol!

well i formated and started from the begining.

went to my bios.

ajusted my fsb clock mode: to linked
memory Ratio: sync mode
timming:9-9-9-24 T2
memory voltage: 1.7v

and so far so good!!!

ill see if it will last until nexted week and if it does ill post, what iv done

just wish i knew about this site much soner.

thanks alot buddie

I've had a lot of problems with my PC freezing over the last several of months. At first, it only froze once every few days, usually while gaming. Then, it got to the point where it was freezing several times a day. Next, my internet connection would fail every 5 minutes. I would have to reset the gateway constantly. I reinstalled my OS several times to no avail. It was happening with both Win XP and Win7. I could not find any pattern to the problem. Finally, I stripped everything out of my case, and reinstalled each component, after my PC failed to boot. It would get stuck at "verifying dmi data" and go no further. I eventually discovered that the problem has something to do with USB. I had to unplug my USB hub and MP3 player to finally get the darn PC to work. My USB keyboard/mouse does not cause any problems. I thought maybe it was a bad port, but it doesn't matter which port I am plugged into. I have left my hub and Sansa Fuze MP3 player unplugged for a week now. Everything is running smooth, like butter!

MOBO: XFX 790i Ultra
BIOS P06 w/default settings. . . going back to P09 to test shortly
CPU: Q6600 2.4ghz
RAM: 2 x 1024 Corsair DDR3 XMS3 1333
GPU: 2 x EVGA 8800 GTS 512 SLI

I had a lot of issues in my pc (xfx 790i ultra, ocz 1333 2x2gb, geforce 9800 gx2, intel 9450 2 quad core) i setted the timing and other memory stuff but the freezes going on... I read that my cpu works to 1.25 Mhz and the bios was setted to 1.1.
Then i setted it to 1.25 and i haven't any freeze by a week, the pc is on 24h/24
:) hope that this will help someone

hey gues im having the same problem, i have a 790i board and q9550 cpu everytime i play games or watch a movie it freezes up! i tried to reinstall win7 32, same problems than i upgrated to 64bit same thing, my bios setting are to default.. and im new to these things can someone help me out please

thanks

Guys, I need some help with this motherboard, Asus Striker ii Extreme, Intel Socket 775. The motherboard is blocking and freezing out of nowhere. It happens 2 to 3 times a day.

PC Specifications,

Graphics card - BFG GTX 295,
PSU - Thermaltake 1500Watt
OS - Windows 7 x64 BIT
HD - 160GB Samsung
RAM -Corsair TR3X6G1333C9 1.50v ver8.1 9-9-9-24 1333Mhz 2048MB6GB (3x2GB)

The system blocks and makes a strange sound. Two days ago I have removed one stick ram. Now it has only 4 GB and it is working fine. I am not having and blocking anymore. I want all 6 GBS to be used but from what I can see it's the ram that is blocking it. I think this board can't accept more than 4 GB and yet it says it can support up to 8 GB.

I have not overclocked the system at all. Everything is at default settings.

Do you guys think I could change some settings in bios so that it can accept all 6 GB of ram? Maybe some voltage can cause the system to block?

Please, if you have any help then do let me know.

Thank you
