So I installed my H80i the first time.. (i5 3570k btw at stock clock) , temperatures were around 23-26 degrees.
Uninstalled the H80i because the Corsair Link wasn't installed , didnt change the thermal paste and temperatures were around 30 degrees. Thought the temperatures were annoying so I uninstalled it again and added some Arctic Cooling Mx-4 thermal paste or something like that , cleaned the CPU and copper block on the H80i and put a pea size on the CPU.
Now the temperates are around 29-39 degrees on idle! http://gyazo.com/bd075c98809ef5ce7bdd6312dfee73cf
Not even sure what I've done wrong , I'm using a Push-Pull configuration .

Umn, did you make sure you spread the thermal paste with a card. I typically use an old plastic credit card, works rather well. Just spread it so the whole cpu is covered and make sure its very thin. Too much paste will actually make for higher temps

never had a problem myself with a card, and I have installed like 10 CPUs using a card spreading method. However, its your CPU, so my suggestion now would to take the cooler back off and try a little less paste, if things are hotter then try more grease.

Its just hard to know if your whole CPU is getting coated with thermal paste if you just plop the cooler down on a glob of paste.

If it helps , I used White spirit to clean the copper block on the h80i and the cpu.. my father used all the Isoprophyl alcohol.. amazing spelling. I'll have to buy some more thermal paste and ill try your method of smearing it on with a card. I'll also test different amounts on an old i3 , i'll lay a small , large , and heavy amount of thermal paste and press down with a clear plastic board to see the effects.

I have always used rubbing alcohol. Also I use Arctic Silver 5, its supposed to be the best thermal paste out there. its pricey for thermal grease ($10) but it has little bits of silver that helps provide a better connection between the CPU and the cooler. You don't need much, just pea sized.

Is your room tempature higher now then it was in the past, it is getting closer to summer. You might just be running a little higher because of that. Even then, temps in the low 30s are good. My air cooled 3750k runs idle 35-40c

My room isn't particularly hot , I've not got any sort of thermometer to measure the temperature of it. I live in the UK , it's quite cold outside and my room is the coldest in the house.. how I like it. When I first had my h80i installed , it beat the temps of my i5 stock cooler on idle.. now it's near the same or worse 🙁 Hopefully the changing of thermal paste sorts it out.

DO NOT USE A CARD to spread it regardless of what that other guy says it creates air bubbles and that will result in higer temperatures you the dot method or a pea size amount in the middle the pressure from the cpu block will spread it evenly
