For a first time Raid setup I took a leap right into it.. and now have run into a problem.

Asus M4A78T-E AMD Motherboard
BIOS ver 2303

I want to have a raid 0 of two small(8gb) sata drives. I have set in the bios for RAID and when the computer starts up, it gives me a prompt stating that I currently don't have any raid set, and to hit 'ctrl-f' to set one up.

When I hit ctrl-f I got to the Option ROM Utility(as shown in image link), and here lies my problem. It gives me the option of 4 items, I know what I need to do but when I hit '2' to define LD nothing happens. Same goes for '1' & '3'. The only option that works is '4', and thats no help to me.

Does any one know why the menu wouldn't be working? or is there some way I can reset it?

After spending a lot of time trying to figure this out, I finally decided to start fresh. I reset the motherboards BIOS to what it came with, and cleared the memory on the motherboard(moving the pins over for a a few seconds). Anyways, what I found was that with the older BIOS the ROM Utility worked fine. This then made me think that its a problem with the BIOS. I step by step updated the BIOS by one version and checked to see if the Utility still worked.

What I found was the past 3?(I think, maybe 2, 2105 & 2303) BIOS versions break the ROM utility. After I installed either 1610 or 1703(I think) the ROM Utility worked.

I still have issues while installing windows not accepting the RAID driver, but the ROM Utility should work.

Hello,

I have the same problem. My motherboard is 970DE3/U3S3. How can I change the BIOS version to solve the problem??

Thank you very much.

@Kitos,

Normally to update your motherboard's bios you want to check out the manufacturer's website. In your case the 970DE3/U3S3 is made by ASRock and the page to download is http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=970DE3/U3S3

The two things you may want to look at are, "drivers & utilities download" for the appropriate sata raid driver and for the motherboard bios, the BIOS Download link.

It looks like there is only one version of the BIOS currently hosted, so I dont know how well that's going to work to solve your problem.

There are different methods on that page for updating the bios, before you do any of them, please first read the "How to update" guide(there is a guide for each row).

Hello, I have found a solution!!

thanks, Actyually there were two versions on the official web page and finally I could change the BIOS version. But that is not the solution.

The solution is go to the BIOS Menu/ advance/ Storage and disable the IDE SATA at the same time. After do that you can reboot and use the RAID utility.

I hope it works with your motherboards too.
