My windows update settings display the following message:

"*Some settings are managed by your organisation"

The configured policies are:

  • Specifies target server to host updates
    Branch readiness level
    Enable quality update deferral
    Quality update deferral period
    enable feature update deferral
    feature update deferral period
    set branch readiness level
set period to defer feature update
set period to defer quality update

Laptop: Yoga 370s
Window 10 Pro - Default Lenovo install, Version 10.0.17134 Build 17134
The laptop is not part of a domain

What I have tried:

  • Used gpedit to set all the polices back to not configured
    Ensured that telemetry is enabled
Ensured I'm not on a Windows Insider version
Checked in the registry for the corresponding entries for the policy options.

Any hints?

Solution
I had tried that but it didnt work,

This is what ended up working:

RD /S /Q "%windir%\System32\GroupPolicyUsers"
RD /S /Q "%windir%\System32\GroupPolicy"
The cause is active hours. If you run an update inside the time you have set as active hours, Windows gets confused. It may even show "Some settings are managed by your organisation" in the windows update screen in settings, even if it is your own personal machine.

The simple answer is go to settings/update & security/windows update and run the pending update again, this action clears the power options and also the warning about organisation controlling your PC (though this warning may linger for a while before it disappears)

A long term solution might be to change your active hours or simply run updates outside the time frame you have set as active. I hope Microsoft figure out a better way or just add a message that explains why this is happening.

to change active hours, go to settings/update & security/Windows update and change active hours is 1st link under check for updates button
