Wow! I can't believe that came from the Post. Random act of journalism indeed!

It's so sickening to read. We have to get government out of business and vice versa. No wonder people perceive the freedom of capitalism as evil when this kind of crap happens.

So would you support public campaign financing and lobbying restrictions?

I think it's worth debating for sure. I don't like the idea of using my money for political campaigns though. Also, i'm not sure that would solve the problem as long as you have corrupt people in and running for office/re-election. They will find a way "to allow" themselves to be lobbied. They always do. Look at the McCain/Feingold campaign finance reform designed to "get money out of politics" and now there is more money than ever in politics.

Yeah, McCain-Feingold obviously didn't solve the problem; the Citizens United decision didn't help either. I'm not hopeful about a solution coming from the very lawmakers who take the bribes in the first place.

"Scandal" seems more appropriate than crisis.

If you're proposing what the Emanuel reference suggests, to use a crisis for partisan purposes, it undermines your case a bit.
