I'm using an AMD FX-8320E on a Gigabyte 970 chipset and I didn't really have to update my bios, it depends on the mobo in some cases. If you get the rev2.0 than the bios is updated already I do believe

The motherboard manufacture lists CPU compatibility and the BIOS version required. My guess is that the BIOS needed for a na FX6300 is two or more years old. The motherboard page -- http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970%20Pro3%20R2.0/?cat=CPU Says the FX6300 have been supported in ALL BIOS versions.
