Solution

Motherboard lighting up doesn't mean anything. It could still not work.

That PSU while not complete junk, its up there, and likely doesn't have the connectors to properly power your board.

First thing to do is buy a new PSU from Seasonic, XFX, or EVGA (B2,G2,P2 only), you want around a 500w PSU or more depending on your GPU (what do you have?).

After that try it out, hooked up correctly. If it doesn't work at all, I would replace the motherboard. If that STILL doesn't work, then replace the CPU.
You used a PCIe plug on the CPU power. This is bad.

What is the make and model of your PSU? If it doesn't have an 8 pin (4 + 4) connector you cannot use it.

Now as for the damage you did, until you hook it up properly and try it you won't know, but you very well could have wrecked the motherboard and PSU.

the psu is fine but is the cpu ok?
as for the psu its really old but not that old I think 2012

CPU may be ok, it may not be. Depends how quickly the board blew out. Very likely the PSU and motherboard are damaged, but until its hooked up correctly and tested no way to know for sure.

I need to know the exact brand and model of the PSU. Then we can work from there.

You've let the magic smoke out of something. As far as what might have gotten cooked?
Who knows. You can only tell when you start replacing things.

Probably not the CPU. Probably.

And you've still not said what PSU it is.
