[SOLVED] Some keys don't work after Windows 10 update

Hello,

After a windows 10 update, some of my keys are not working properly:
Dot key not working, if I do shift+dot it acts as a mouse right click,
my number 7 key now types dash symbol but 7 on keypad still works,
Windows Key and number 1 on keypad doesn't work

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 17 7737, Windows 10 with latest updates installed,
I reinstalled the keyboard driver in device manager and restarted,
connected a wireless keyboard and had no issues!
I also checked Dell for new driver updates
Troubleshooter did not find any problems, as expected
Verified keyboard language settings
I did not install any new software recently

So Here I am haha
Any suggestions?

Did that process include "sfc /scannow" and "dism"?

thanks for the suggestions,

sfc /scannow
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.

dism
No component store corruption detected.

I restarted but still the issue remains,

checked reliability history and did not see keyboard issues

Noted that wireless keyboards work. What about a wired (USB) keyboard?

Will the laptop boot into Safe mode and the keyboard work thereafter?

How old is the Dell Inspiron laptop? Any warranty left?

don't have a wired keyboard to test unfortunately,
booted into safe made and the issue remains, windows key, 7, dot, 1 on keypad are doing different functions

booted to BIOS and issue remains but in bios the 7 key is showing semicolon symbol instead of a dash, thoughts on that?

laptop is from 2013-2014 ,no warranty

Even though there is no warranty, the service tag may still be helpful.

If a wireless keyboard is working and with the existing laptop keyboard being 7 - 8 years old I suspect that the laptop keyboard has failed in some manner.

You might be able to find a replacement laptop keyboard and reinstall the keyboard yourself. And/or find someone to help.

DIY can work out but there are risks.

thanks for that link ,it seems very helpful,
I will try to install the latest BIOS update from dell even if I already have it,
If not, I will look into getting a replacement keyboard

Good news! I downloaded and installed the bios version from Dell's website that was already on my laptop, got message saying Dell doesn't recommend installing the same version but I did anyway and now my keyboard is fixed! Cheers

Very good.

Interesting to read that Dell does not "recommend" installing the same version. Seems to ignore the possibility that the working BIOS version was corrupted.

Generally there are three options with regards to such matters: upgrade to a newer version, roll back to the previously working version, and of course just simply reinstall the current version.
