Some overclocking questions

I have some questions that I need help with after overclocking my GPU . It's a GTX 1070 Asus Strix . After testing with Heaven Benchmark 4.0 , I've come to these numbers : +225 on the core clock , +500 on the memory (might try even more , considering others could) .
Anyways . The thing is that , while I'm playing , I've seen that , on the monitoring window Msi Afterburner provides , that the core clock and memory clock do not stay constant . I mean , they dip and stay constantly to 1506mhz sometimes , or just not at the max that I've set them to . Why ? How do i make the gpu run at the settings i've put ? bcs its strange that its just dips down itself (and temps are not a problem , it never gets more than 61 grades , never) .Also i let it at 100% core voltage so it takes how much power it needs , to remove power limitation and throttling .
I might add that I see some red strange dots on my screen sometimes . What would be the cause of that ? Too high core clock or memory clock ?
Also im seeing very low fps to what others get with these components (16gb ram 2133mhz , i7 6700k gtx 1070 etc) . Im playing on an old 1280x1024 monitor too .. my fps is even lower to 1440p tests (of others) . why ?

If your card is dipping below the values that it is set at, it is completing the task without using all of the resources it can. Meaning you can probably turn your quality up if it is a graphics dependent setting.

Hmm ok . I say that because im having around 90-100-110 fps in gta 5 , the game that makes my head explode bcs nothing makes sense , tech related . If i turn msaa up to 4 (havent tried more) it doesnt affect my performance .. Same thing with other settings . This is the video that makes me very confused . why is he seeing more .. in actually 1440p .. than im seeing at 1280x1024 (getting a new 1080p monitor too .. ill see how my fps is in that resolution) . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhzPvddIkz8&t=154s and yeah ive tried playing with the same settings . shouldnt i see a lot more fps considering the resolution is almost doubled ? anyways , im not complaining about 100 fps or 90 .. but im scared that its gonna be even lower when i switch to 1080p

The behavior you describe has two, possible, causes:

1. The card "responds to load". The load in the game is not constant; the card will only clock up to max speed when it needs the juice.

2. The card may throttle if temps exceed 82C

3. Card performance an stability may also be impacted by the card's VRM temps.

HWiNFO measures VRM temps, but doesn't work on all cards

The game in which i noticed it is in gta 5 . Which involves going into indoors parts that arent stressful . Temps as ive said , are not the problem , considering the card has a good "cooler" (asus strix how ive said) and the case is ventilated properly , with 2 140mm fans pushing air inside , 1 fan at the back exhausting and a watercooler in the top . The max temps ive seens are around 61 c .
So i guess its ok that the card isnt at max everytime ? Okay then . i thought the card should be running at max everytime but hey , if thats not needed then i dunno

GPU temps aren't the problem ... do you know what VRM temps are ? Strix is generaly OK

Yes it is normal behavior .... note: you van make it stay at max load all the time but that's also true of your CPU OC and it's kinda like driving around in whatever gear you need to maintain trafic speed and keep your rpms at 6500 all the time ... IOW, not a good idea.


As for the dots, sounds like screen artifacts ... lower OC and see if it goes away

I would also recommend saving several OC profiles on AB... such as

1. Stock
2. Max Stable Core
3. Max Stable Memory
4. Max Stable Combo of 2 and 3
5. Nerfed Combo for battlefield and other whacky games.

his allows you to quickly test which OC 9core or memory) is causing the problem

It can be too, but most often memory. Its simple to check... lower your memory to stock play the game, or lower your core clock play the game. Instead of asking and hoping for right feedback u can test it yourself for 100%.
Dont trust stress test softwares too much, its very often u get stable during heaven but then u crash in game or see artefacts.
I like to overclock on the run, i never waste hours like people do with stress testing with software. All i do is play the game rise memory until see artefacts until see no longer, try other games if other game show artefacts i downclock the memory.
