Hi guys.

I'm searching for a new GPU, I actually own a R9 270x and I want to upgrade.

My options are the MSI R9 390 8GB and the ASUS GTX 970 4GB.

In my country, the R9 390 it's a little bit cheaper ($27 for being exact), but I heard that the R9 heats a lot and makes much noise.

I play at 1080p.

Also, I don't know if I would have a problem with power, I own a 600w certified PSU.

Thank you!

It's a EVGA 600w Bronze Certified.

I know that I would not have a problem with the GTX 970, but the R9 uses more power, so I don't really know.

Measured power consumption GTX 970

System in IDLE = 120 Watts
System Wattage with GPU in FULL Stress = 276 Watts
Difference (GPU load) = 156 Watts
Add average IDLE wattage ~10 Watts
Subjective obtained GPU power consumption = ~ 166 Watts

Power consumption Radeon R9-390X

System in IDLE = 94W
System Wattage with GPU in FULL Stress = 342W
Difference (GPU load) = 248W
Add average IDLE wattage ~10W
Subjective obtained GPU power consumption = ~ 258 Watts

There is a big difference between the cards, I would either stick with the 970, or upgrade your psu and get the r9. Also, what kind of games do you play.

Just saying, you put the specs of the R9 390x, not the R9 390, but I will think that It's similar.

I like to play a lot of games actually, the real problem is that the 3.5gb of the GTX 970 doesn't convinces me at all, mostly for future games.

3.5GB vRAM will be plenty for a good while. Believe me, developers know that tons of people have 4Gb and even 2Gb graphics cards. The 390X is not even powerful enough to willfully process 8GB worth of texture and data. 3.5GB is perfectly fine, nothing to worry about. Latest games such as Star Wars Battlefront 3 don't even use 2GB vRAM on my 390.

You think so? The Ultra Textures of Shadow of Mordor uses 5.5GB, and I don't know if next big games are going to use that amount of VRAM or similar.

IDK, I really don't want to upgrade to a GTX 970 and a little time later the games are not running ok.

I'm thinking of upgrading my PSU now, you think that the 390 is worth it?.
