Son's Computer Upgrade

My son recently got into computer gaming. He is unfortunately utilizing my 6 year old Dell Dimension 9100 computer. I would like to upgrade this computer if possible into a system he can play today's new games on. I would like to stay at about $500 if possible. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Moving this request for help to the Systems Forum would get more response.

Certainly wouldn't want to put $500 into old technology like the 9100. Perhaps add some RAM and upgrade the video card for cheap. But for $500 buy a new system with advanced speed and technology over upgrading an old P4 system like that.
