I have a Sony DSC-W1 camera which will not connect to
windows XP. It appears to be unable to find the correct
drivers to install the hardware, even when the
installation disk is used. I have tried two non-Sony
cameras on the PC which operate as Plug and Play devices
as expected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I returned the
first camera thinking it was faulty.

I am having the same problem with my Sony DSC-P41 camera. Has anyone helped
you yet? Did you install the UBS driver? I tried it both ways with and
without the driver. still no luck.

My Sony DSC-F717 didn't need any drivers. I just plugged it
into a USB port and WinXP saw it as a new drive. Try
uninstalling any drivers that you may have installed and,
for best results, roll back to a restoration point before
you installed anything.
