I'm trying to fix friends laptop (sony vaio sve151e11m).
The behaviour is quite something new to me. The laptop shuts down as soon an any system starts to boot.
I tried to install Windows 7 and everything went fine in the first installation process but once it came to the booting part it just shuts down.
I tried to boot various Linux distros from my USB HDD, so a live boot but the same thing. As soon as it starts to boot the laptop shuts down, except for Bodhi Linux, 3. something version and 4.3.1. version. They both boot up and work fine?
I would leave it but it's outdated and I'm having trouble to install any of the newer browsers.

I thought at first that it might be a high CPU temperature problem so I disassembled it , cleaned and changed the thermal paste (was pretty dirty), however, it did't help.
Also, there seems to be a problem with the GPU, strange lines and letters pop-up on the screen. I heated the GPU with a hair dryer and now it's fine.. For how long tho I'm not sure but the shut down problem remains.
I tried my old HDD with some windows 10 version on it but same thing, it shuts down on boot.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Solution
I'm assuming that the laptop is no longer working with a battery but plugged into the wall outlet? It's very likely that the power delivery componentry on the laptop is compromised. Might want to grab a magnifying glass and inspect each square inch of the laptop's motherboard, back to front, to see if there are any blown/damaged capacitors. The lines on your screen is tell tale that the GPU is dying or that the heat is beyond what it's meant to operate at.

Solution
Suspecting the charger too. It's not an original one and yes I took the battery out.
As for the GPU it probably did get damage because of overheating. When I cleaned it there was quite a thick layer of dust, probably no air was going in.
The thing is I don't have a spare charger to try it but will see to inspect the MB as you suggested.
It's just pretty weird that the Bodhi Linux works without any problems, no shut downs. RAM seems to be fine too.
However, I did see just moment ago that the boot was set to legacy mode. I tried UEFI but then the Bodhi linux doesn't appear, guess I would need to reinstall it.
Tried to live boot some other linux with UEFI but same problem.
Thanks for the reply

Turns out its the charger. So I had the laptop with the battery out the whole time and only bodhi linux worked fine, guess because low power consumption.
I have put the battery back in and let it charge for a bit. After that I disconnected the charger and tried to boot in any other linux which didn't work before, now they worked.
The GPU issue seems to be fixed with heating it up but for how long.. we will see.
Anyways, the laptop works perfectly now with the battery in, using linux mint.
I guess best would be to get the right charger but for now with the battery it does the work.
Thanks for the help @Lutfij
