Ok, the mistake you are making here is that you are jumping to conclusions. I never said that floptical drives were a standard among later generation Amigas. What I stated is that they were found in later generation Amigas and indeed they were. You don't have to search for long in Amiga forums to realize this.
 
I think it was probably used more for production then anything. I worked at a tv station that had a lot of there audio stuff stored on mini disc as a cheap backup in case the hard drive crashed. Many places use old technology as long as possible. They still have a stash of beta tapes for back ups just in case
