Hello. So, iv'e been having this unusual problem for the past few days where if i try to go to any of my image folders and wait for then to sort by the settings i have them to (name/file type), the pc will just slow down, all other programs will stop working properly and eventually im forced to restart it caus otherwise it will become completely unresponsive.
I check if my ram was kicking the bucket but its seems fine and event when i stay a long time on the pc be it on the internet or gaming it will act just fine. Its only acting up when i try to open these certain image forders for some reason.
I already tried re installing windows 10 but that didnt cut it, so i wanted to know if anyone else knows what this kind of problem could be and how to fix it. Thank you.
PS: im on windows 10 pro 64 bit version and i already tried running my anti virus several times too

Solution
Try running the free version of HDTune on the hdd and check the Health tab, let it complete a SMART scan as that will report on its fitness.

How old is the HDD? What make?
See if rebuilding your search index helps - https://www.tekrevue.com/tip/how-to-solve-windows-search-issues-index-rebuild/

Do you have a hdd or ssd? or both? Are the images stored on a hdd as you might want to run defrag on the drive. windows 10 is meant to do it automatically but if you have lots of images, it might be spread out over the drive. That shouldn't cause PC to freeze though

You don't run defrag on ssd normally, it has its own way of keeping drive clean.

curious, can you open task manager up and set it to show more details if it just shows name of programs active Do any of the CPU/Disk/Memory columns go to 100% when searching image folders, might tell us where to look.

Thx for answering. Yeah i have a Windows and some other programs and drivers installed in a SSD while downloads, games and images are all in the HDD. Im gonna defrag the thing and im currently rebuilding the search index, hope it works.

EDIT: well both drives were fragmented and optimized but when i treid to rebuild the search index it pretty much caused the same issue, the pc started to slow down to a crawl and finally freezed again, i booted the thing up in safe mode and everything worked just fine.
i think im gonna just move my important files over and format the thing
