Sound Card Driver just won't work

Sorry to bother you guys, but I really need some help.

I've recently formatted and installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit), after doing so all the drivers par from 2 are functioning properly.

In device manager it specifies that two devices are not working properly, a unkown device and High Definition Audio.

I've downloaded the latest drivers from realtek (says windows 7 (64bit) compatible), no luck. I tried to use the drivers from the disk supplied by the company when I originally bought the computer, disk cannot load. I've tried downloading sound drivers from the motherboard's website, no luck.

What should I do?

If you cant get the Windows 7 drivers to work try using the Vista ones... they work just as well.

(I had some problems with that today)First make sure,go to safe mode and from uninstall programs,uninstall the realtek driver.
then you will have to reboot,when you do it boot again in safe mode (just make sure that the realtek folder isn't listed in your program files folder.If its there it should have some useless files.delete the realtek folder.Start the Realtek installation.Then reboot.It worked for me.

Ok thanks damian86. Its a friends computer that has the problem so I will not get back to immediately on the result.

May be a bit of a stupid question but; When you use a USB headphone, does it use the soundcard or not? As a alternative to fixing the problem may be just to buy a USB Headset and use that instead

Headphones would require a sound source, working integrated sound chip or third party sound card. Perhaps consider a third party sound card. I can recommend some if needed. I have one ASUS board with an integrated 'Soudmax' solution. The drivers do not work period. I was limited to a system volume with up/down volume control. Installing a Creative X-FI for $20 fixed that.

What would you recommend? I haven't yet checked but I'm pretty sure my friends computer is using the PCI Express x16 slot for his graphics card, so the soundcard would have to be PCI Express x1.

A PCI (not PCI-E) interface soundcard will work, that's what I use.

These cards are mid range priced and performance. I own these, as well as a number of older third party cards, but these are the most recent.
This is excellent for under a hundred dollars. I use it with my 95w Bose 2.1 speaker system.

Not for gaming, but great software panel and 24 bit sound for music and videos. I have this in my HTPC with an older Boston Acoustic 70w 4.1 speaker system. Really great sound and not over expensive.

If a budget sound card solution is needed, this is availabe in 5.1 and 7.1. I have it. It is good for the $10 especially if the onboard you have apparently does not work at all.

Don't forget to disable the other audio device from the bios,I have to disable AC97 to use HD realtek audio.
Also check,On realtek HD audio manager click on connector settings(the yellow folder) and check the 'Disable front panel jack detection' box. i hope that helps

A helpful update on what might solve this, is that after I installing the download from the realtek website, restarting. The Realtek HD Audio Manager doesn't show up anywhere, its like it hasn't correctly installed.

I know,i had exactely the same thing! I just clicked on start,search 'Realtek HD audio manager', and then once it finds it run it,uncheck and check back again the 'Display icon in notification area' box.it should work.If you have followed my steps, it should work.

Here is the deal....just go to Asrock website download the latest bios...flash your mobo and install the audio drivers again 😉 you'll see that asrock has made an upgrade for your sound card so thats why these drivers that you put doesn't work 😉 hope i helped
