Sound - High pitch noise, or static

Has anyone ever come across constant static, or noise with onboard sound.
And also noise when even using a SoundBlaster Live Value PCI card?

I had an Asus P4R800-VM in the same setup, with a 2.8GHz CPU. Never had
this static noise. Swapped it with a GA-K8VM800-M w/ A64 3000.

Same case/ power supply, and speakers.


Could it be a bad motherboard?

Could be the speakers? They will have an amplifier, so maybe that is noisy.
I think it most unlikely to be the case! Do the speakers emit the constant
'static or noise' when they are unplugged from the soundcard? Are you using
Line-Out, you should be, as speaker or headphone out will be noisier and at
the wrong voltage & impedance.

As the noise has only started since changing the board, are you certain the
new board is securely grounded to the case? No loose screws?. Maybe, just
maybe, the regulator on the Mobo is shoving filth onto the supply rails!
Though I suspect your problems would be far worse than static. I think the
system would probably be as stable as a Squirrel in a sack of nuts.

It's a well documented fault with the SB live card, particularly with newer
high bus speeds. If you do a search for SBlive & crackle you'll find many
people have tried many fixes - some have worked. Personally I've dumped the
card & now use onboard sound.
