OKAY. Long story short, I had a HDD failure in my ASUS N56dp laptop. LOST EVERYTHING, due to me being stupid and not making a recovery media. It literally had stopped working one day. So, bought a new, legitimately compatible 1 TB HDD, and I had no way to get Windows besides from a family members laptop, which is a Toshiba running 8.1 64 bit, via USB.

I installed 8.1 successfully, no problem with OEM keys or anything and everything worked, right up until I realized that the sound didn't work(Soundboard was moving, drivers were installed, etc). I sent it to a tech guy to install all the right drivers and to run a hardware diagnostic if that didn't fix it which it didnt.

He pretty much told me that due to it being a different Brand, the software could be conflicting with my own pc. I don't get how this is a thing and I think he mightve been talking out of his ass. Don't know if that can be a thing or not.

Facts:
-ASUS does NOT send physical install media
-My warranty is expired
-Tech installed drivers and I tried myself at it, so it's not the drivers.
-And I have no clue on what to go on from here
-Pc originally had Windows 8, don't know if that's relevant

If I somehow got ahold of a Windows 8 install media, via download or disc or usb, would that help? How or where would I do that?

Or is the fact that I installed 8.1 straight to a new HDD a problem/not the problem?

If the internal sound card in the motherboard is 'fried' would an external sound card fix this easily?

Im so lost on what to do with a laptop that runs PERFECTLY FINE besides the sound, which may or may not be effected by something with the OS.

It originally had an arror, along with a Unkown PCI device which was all fixed after I installed the drivers. I sent it to a tech to install all the drivers correctly after that as well.

Where would I buy one of the base setup discs?
