Sound wont work on ubuntu?

My sound is not working at all..its not a hardware problem, Everything is in but for some reason it dont hear anything. Help

Is this a new install and/or build?

Did you go into your hardware settings/system settings, then sound to check the volumes were correct and the right output device was selected?

New build and i have: AMD A8 7600, 8GB DDR3,1600MHZ, And the os version is 15.10. motherboard model is gigabyte GA-F2A68HM-H. Thank you

Have you connected to the internet and let it go through all of its update rounds?

Most times this will update the drivers, if necessary, and correct a fresh install.

You may need to head to the AMD site though and get the Ubuntu driver and install manually though:

In Windows I had sound issues when using HDMI for the display, once I witched to DSUB or DVI the sound issues were resolved.

How are the speakers connected... hdmi, line out, usb?

I haven't used regular Ubuntu, but in other versions the drill is to open sound settings and turn-off all devices except the one you are using. Turn them off, don't set them as fallback.

If the hdmi is plugged into a TV, you might need to turn off the TV then back on so it will re-detect the connection.

Check that your channels are not muted in alsamixer and that the correct output is selected in pulse audio. I use pavucontrol

So many people told me to check if its muted..its 100% not. I tried everything i could. do u think its a hardware problem?

My work machine (an AMD machine) has the exact same issue, but only under 15.10. I tried everything I could for a few hours and gave up. I went back to 14.04 and everything was fine again.

I just saved my files, and trashed the install. I don't think there is a reliable/easy method to downgrade.

But maybe some one else will give you better advice. All I can tell you is what happened when I got this issue.

Can you post output of "sudo aplay -L" You can test the sound with alsa directly with program speaker-test:

probably it is included by default on ubuntu.

I have two AMD cards running sound through hdmi (ubuntu 15.10, archlinux and OpenELEC) with the default opensource drivers with DTS/AC3 pass through as well as 2.0 PCM sound to TV no problem.
