I have an older mobo (Gigabyte H67MA-USB3-3) and i recently purchased a Silicon Power m.2 ssd 512GB with a pcie adapter for my last slot which is a pcie x4. I have not had any trouble formatting the drive for storage or cloning my boot drive onto it, but I cannot find it when I enter bios to make it bootable. I have even updated my bios for the off chance it would help but last update for that thing was 2012 and it didn't change anything unless I'm not enabling something I should be. If i cannot do it because the mobo I would like some confirmation and for now I'll just use it as a really fast drive but if I'm missing something after cloning I would appreciate some step by step help.
