Sparks from New surge protector

Okay so I just got a new surge protector and turned it on... It says that it was grounded there is a light indicator indicating if it's grounded which it was and I was plugging my TV into it and it sparked... Is this normal? Even though it was grounded? Thanks for the input

Usually happens when socket is live (switched on) when you plug appliances in to it.

Correct procedure is to switch the socket off before you plug anything in to it.

My 1950's house originally didn't have switched sockets so I changed them all for switched ones.

Maybe the surge protector has an on/off button .....

I myself have usually no such issues,but was the connector form the tv also grounded? Mine isn't so maybe that's why.
