HI, just finished building a PC and everything is fine except when i plug my speakers into the back of my computer they do not work. However, when plugged into the back of the monitor, the speakers work. I am running windows 7 and using Google Chrome. In addition, when the jack is plugged into the back of the system, the test sounds work in realtek audio manager, but i cant get audio anywhere else, not even on the windows test sounds. Help is much appreciated

I'm assuming that you have sound on your Realtek control center, when you say that is working. Have you checked your system's sound control center or mixer, and made sure that your default speakers output is not muted there?

Go to Control Panel, Sound, Playback, click on speakers properties, levels. Make sure the right button with a speaker sign is not red. Also in the same menu go to advanced and and enable: " allow applications to take exclusive control of this device"
If you are using HDMI cable for your monitor that can cause the problem. Most likely your sound is transfered to the monitor instead your sound card. Try right click on the speaker icon in system tray and then go to Playback Devices. See your available options there and set the PC speakers as the default one. Restart the computer if changes do not affect immediately and you should be fine.

Thank you but I have tried that, when i plug the speakers into the computer and then select the speakers as the default device, the sound only works in realtek audio manager. It does not work anywhere else. Just asking, would using a cable other than hdmi help?

If speakers are set as your default playback device, and you have no sound, check if they're not muted. Make sure you insert the stereo jack on audio out and not microphone or line in holes.

Thanks, I'm positive it is in the audio out and when you say check if it is muted are you saying just on the mixer or is there another way to check? Like I said the test works in Realtek manager but not anywhere else
