I just tried plugging an m.2 slot ssd, was not able to figure out how to access the drive properly, so I removed it. Now my speakers are emitting a humming sound, I can faintly hear the audio when I play videos. Any suggestions to fix this?

What procedure did you use for the process? Can you provide any specs of components used, settings adjusted, etc.?

Thanks for replying. I'm stumped, I plugged the speakers into a laptop and they work fine, now when they're plugged into the pc they give off the faintest sound and emit that hum sound.
As far as procedure, I unplugged my gpu and inserted a WD Black SN750 (NVME SSD) into the port just under the gpu slot, plugged gpu back in, turned the pc back on and entered the bios. Then.. I enabled the RAID mode m2 slot, thinking this would allow me to access the newly inserted drive but then when I tried to boot up it failed to do so. So I went back to BIOS turned off raid mode m2 slot and I was booting up fine again. It was soon after I noticed my speakers were not working properly. Since then I uninstalled the "Steam Streaming Speakers" driver located in the Device manager, thinking I could update the driver, but this hasn't fixed it yet either..

Odd indeed. First though, what motherboard are you using? Is this a 2nd M.2 drive to setup in RAID? Otherwise, you would not want RAID selected. Any other UEFI settings adjusted, or anything near speakers themselves when plugged into desktop to cause interference?

OK. Are you now reinstalling the latest drivers for audio from MSI? Did Windows itself download a different driver? Are there any audio enhancement software suites installed from MSI, as its common to have for effects.
Ok this is a good idea, I’ll try to install audio drivers from MSI. I uninstalled the steam streaming speakers drivers, and currently don’t have a speaker driver now. I’ll report back.

I'm still trying to figure this out. I downloaded the latest realtek audio driver for a b360m bazooka motherboard. "Realtek HD Universal Driver"
Hasn't changed my issue yet.

Very odd at this point. Volume settings maxed out for volume in system tray or speakers themselves?

Soo I searched the internet and found this post off of bleepingcomputer.com. This person had the same exact issue I am having.. plugged in an m.2 sdd and started having crackling sound problems with external speakers. Their solution.. was to get a new MB.. Surely I could figure out a cheaper option. This person explains the situation perfectly, they even installed the same brand of ssd I attempted.. here's the link

I have now noticed bluetooth speakers work just fine with my situation. For some reason wired speakers will not work now.

Odd indeed. That does seem a bit extreme. I don't see how adding an M.2 SSD could damage onboard audio circuitry. Worst case if it was on board audio at fault, I'd add a soundcard, internal or USB based, before purchasing a new motherboard assuming warranty has expired.
