I'm getting Spectrum internet set up today and they informed me on the phone they need to use their router for the 400mbps speed but not the 200mbps. I bought the Arris Surfboard SB6183. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience or if I could get a different router to use the higher speed. Thanks

You likely could use the arris 6190.

I suspect they do not run the modems at the limits of their speed so they can run on lower quality wires. In theory your modem can run at 400mbps but they choose to run it at a slower data encoding.

You need to look at their list of supported modems for each speed. I know you can not use the 6190 for their gigabit speeds even though the modem in thoery can run to 1.4g.
