7800xt or 4070s? 7800xt where Im at is 450$ rn while 4070s is 590$


My CPU is 5600x

also what is the recommended PSU wattage for if I upgrade? Im coming from a 1080 gtx.

I currently have a 650W+ Bronze EVGA l've had it since 2018. It's been used for probably medium high game load I've placed some intense games without DLSS as 1080 cards dont support it (Remnant 2, Ghost of Tsu) but

I currently have a 650W+ Bronze EVGA l've had it since 2018. It's been used for probably medium high game load I've placed some intense games without DLSS as 1080 cards dont support it (Remnant 2, Ghost of Tsu) but

also play some well optimized low load games like OW2.

What I was saying though was I play the lower end games at 144 FPS high settings. Aside from that other FSR frame generation high end games 70-100 at medium.

The 4070 Super wins out in fps. But not by much. In terms of performance/$ the 7800xt is better value. However, if you use RT (raytracing effects) then it's hands down the 4070 Super.

I also had this same choice, and also looked at the 7900GRE. The GRE is better in pure raster performance, but again lags behind the 4070 Super in RT. Also, DLSS and Frame Gen, are arguably better on nVIdia GPU's than AMDs version FSR+FG. Superior quality with less shimmering glitches.

Do you have a budget for both the GPU and a new PSU?

Roland has summed up the benefits of both above really and from a personal point of view, I recently went with the 4070 super as well. I enjoy high fps multiplayer first person shooter games but also like to enjoy single player games with as high visual fidelity so the Ray Tracing benefits did appeal to me. DLSS / FG are also big highlights.

Thank you this helps a lot. If I was choosing between 7900gre and 4070s, I really like just playing games ranging from FPS/team comps like CoD to Marvel Rivals (poor optimization) to adventure solo games like ghost of tsushima and I love visuals in games as long as Im rocking a decently high fps.

1080p

At 1080p any of the cards mentioned will perform very well. None of the upscaling techniques work brilliantly at 1080p although DLSS at this resolution seems to be significantly better. At higher resolutions there is less of a delta between them.

The 7800xt / 7900GRE win on value with the GRE being better at pure raster performance as mentioned. In the rest of the metrics then the 4070 super performs better.

If you have the funds to afford a good PSU in addition to the 4070 super then this would be my option but I also feel that both the GRE and 7800xt would not be bad choices in any way.
