Does the phone hold its breadth for 30 mins then drown?
Does it get a headache after 26 drops and quits life?
Does it brace itself for dust then give up after 6 hours?

How does it make these decisions...

How about your iPhone? What's that? You upgraded to iOS 6.1 and the wifi-greyedout bug is STILL not fixed?

I think it boils down to testing and liability, and they're more or less giving themselves a way to wiggle out of some warranty claims.
