Squealing noise when plugging in headphones/speakers

Hello,

So, whenever I plug my ATH M50x headphones into my computer (or my speakers for that matter), I get a high pitch squealing sound which drives me insane. This is a constant squeal, but the pitch changes. When the system is under a heavier load, the pitch gets higher and louder. When it's not under a loud and sitting idle, its an annoying high pitch squealing sound.

First of all, I know its not the headphones or speakers. When I plug the headphones into my iPhone, iPad or MacBook, the audio sounds perfectly fine. So, I don't think its a problem with the headphones themselves. I also thought "hey, maybe it was my onboard audio" like a forum member suggested to me. So, I went and picked up a Creative Sound Blaster card off NewEgg for around 50 bucks. Hooked it up to my PCI slot and boom. The squeal was still there.

My next thought was maybe it was my power supply. So, I took my power supply out of my case, plugged in everything and booted up Windows. The sound still persisted. So, I thought maybe a cable was touching the sound card or somewhere on the motherboard and may be interfering with the audio, but nothing changed when I fiddled with the cables.

I then googled my issue a bit and came across a forum post saying it was because my volume was too high. So, I turned down my audio to around 25% and the squeal wasn't audible. But...heaving my headphones turned down that low is SUPER annoying, because I do like listening to louder music.

My last thought was maybe it was my GPU? I haven't played with anything, but I did hear some things about GPU's producing coil whining. I have a GTX 970 installed on my system.

If anyone has any other ideas, or things I could try, I would love to hear it. This whine is so annoying. I'm so done with it haha.

Thanks,
Brennen.

There are many things that can cause it. You should mention your setup mobo etc.
The squeal is normally bad isolation between the sound stage and everything else running on your computer, fans, hard disks, anything with a motor.
I remember on my Z87 I had a similar problem and you could hear the hard disks accessing through the headphones.
Are you using mobo sound or something else?

I am using a Creative Sound Blaster card that I just purchased for my audio.

Yes. As I said above, I got this card because my on board motherboard audio was making the same noise. But, now, I am only really getting that noise when a windows application is open. Like, If I have no applications open that create sound, its silent. If I open a game like Fortnite, it starts squealing like crazy.

Sounds like a fax machine on speed right?
It is something in your machine causing it, and there is very little you can do. The noise is being generated and going through the power system.
So it could be the PSU not suppressing the noise.
What model/brand is your PSU and can you borrow a friends to try that? Don't want you spending money on something if you know it isn't the problem.
