Hello there,
I bought a PC about 6 months ago and from the first time ever using it the PC would freeze whenever it was installing apps/games and most of the most stutters/freezes when browsing Google Chrome, it wasn't that big of a deal at first but 2-3 months later some games would have their sounds unsynced or muted (they don't even play) like for example in FIFA 19 the commentator would stop commentating but the game still runs fine, it was a bit akward and I thought that the game was corrupted so I reinstalled it but the problem came back after some time.

4th month is when things would get crazier to the point where the whole PC freezes on its own without any programs/games running in the background, so I formatted it but didn't delete any of the files and it ran fine for about a week and the problem kept coming back slowly until it was all the same as before

Then I got an idea : I had a different SATA cable that came in the mobo's box so I decided to use it instead of the one currently plugged in and it fixed it for many weeks but eventually it came back again so I had to switch SATA ports (from 1-2-3-4-5-6) every so often to keep this from happening, the odd thing about this is that SATA_1 is always having this issue even with the new SATA cable

One day I had to copy a large file from my SSD to another computer so I plugged it to the different computer and even before I started copying it went to 100% usage frequently so I came to the conclusion that this was a hardware issue and that the SSD is malfunctioning so I checked the disk's health using Crystal Disk and it showed that it's at 90%, weird ?? this SSD is brand new and just came out of the box about 5 months ago..

5th month was the worst since it would freeze on games and on the desktop randomly however it's not completely random but when it happens it happens for like 2-3 minutes and comes back to normal and repeats again at this point it was unusable and I really considered buying a new SSD IF I DIDN'T HAVE MY 1 YEAR WARRANTY , yes I had a warranty this whole time but I wasn't sure since I tought the problem will go away soon + I had studies so going back to the shop was near impossible (more on this later).

So I tried every single solution I could find online from optimizing the disk to disabling certain services ect.. but to no avail, yes it would get fixed by these solutions but it's temporary and it's so annoying when it comes back, eventually I gave up on solving this problem and I hated HP for their <Mod Edit> SSD

6th month-present day still not fixed but it good a little better since it wouldn't freeze on desktop but it freezes when first joining a game like after loading into a game (not on the main menu) and this happens on some games and not others.

Eventually I got tired of this so I contacted the vendors and described the problem and they said that it must be a virus or that I did something that caused this but I told them that it was happening from the beginning and that I reinstalled Windows 10 for like 5 times and even moved to Windows 11 and even updated the BIOS, they agreed to look into it but I didn't go there yet.

I want you guys to give me an idea of what should I do or maybe find me a solution before I go back to that shop

From what I can see, your motherboard doesn't have an NVMe slot, but it does have a 4x PCIe, which is basically the same thing. I can see that you have a Wi-Fi adapter. Is it plugged into the 4x PCIe connector on your motherboard, or is it USB?

If it's the former, get an NVMe SSD and an NVMe to PCIe 4x adapter if what you want is a new SSD (I don't know exactly what you mean by solution if you're going to get the SSD repaired)

The Wi-Fi adapter is a custom made USB by me

I just want to get an idea on what should I do instead of going back to the shop

Can we see the CrystalDiskInfo screenshot, preferably with the raw values in decimal (10 [DEC])? I can't seem to find any info on what components this drive might use. Have you ever tried any of the Flash ID programs?

This behavior sounds reminiscent of something I've seen on a Crucial BX500 (SMI 2258XT controller). It starts out fine but performance degrades over a period of weeks/months. The only solution I've found is to wipe the drive and rewrite all the data, even if the same exact data. Even then, it's not a great solution, as the problem always returns. I'd love to know the actual cause. If you can get the drive replaced, preferably with a different model, I would.

I would consider completely wiping the disk if only that it garantees the problem to be fixed

The only things that jump out at me are that it's running a bit toasty and that it's lost a lot of life for having less than 6TB of host writes. How full do you generally keep it?

The max that I leave is about 20GB and most of the time it's 70GB-100GB free

From what I can see, your motherboard doesn't have an NVMe slot, but it does have a 4x PCIe,
It has PCIE x1 slot (not PCIE x4 slot).
If it's the former, get an NVMe SSD and an NVMe to PCIe 4x adapter if what you want is a new SSD
NVME SSD can not be installed into this motherboard.
Only slot, where PCIE M.2 adapter could be placed is PCIE x16 slot (currently occupied by graphics card).

SSD:
HP S650 512GB
BTW - HP S650 doesn't have 512GB model. It's 480GB.

Update : One night I was editing a video and then it froze and had a blue sceen INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE and then today had the same BSOD when I was restarting it.
Really not sure if this is a corruption in Windows and that I should wipe out the whole disk and start again because the problem could be from the disk itself being faulty

Even under your best case scenario you've got less than 15% free. That's not good, especially if this is a DRAM-less SSD.

The crashing is quite concerning. Maybe use something like HDDScan or Victoria to run a full READ scan. See if it finds any issues. Also, check the transfer rate graph and see if there are any huge dips to like <50MB/s.

I've ran a read scan for about 2-3 minutes with HDDScan and this is the result :

I think I'm going to wipe the entire SSD and start again, what is the best way to do this ?

I wanted to see the "Graph" tab, but even from the Map, I can see that's not a happy drive.

The best way to wipe the drive would be to use something that can issue the Secure Erase command. This will wipe the drive and reset it to its ideal state. Some manufacturers have utilities that can do so. I'm not sure about HP. A complicated but generic way to do it is using a bootable live Linux USB or DVD and the hdparm utility. I can point you towards directions, if you wish to go that route. There are probably other utilities that will work and are less complicated.

Update : I did a fresh Windows 11 install and it seems alright as now while I'm writing this , I don't know if it will come back or that i fixed this permanently, I'll update you when I reinstall all my games and files and apply some settings, the drive is now 412GB free by the way
