I have an SSD with Windows 10 and an HD with games and stuff on it. If I build a new system can I plug them straight in and they will work? or do I have to reformat them and delete everything?

Cheers

Solution

Get some other drive, and copy all of your personal data off the 3TB HDD to that.

Then, do a clean install on the SSD, with only the SSD connected.

Later, reconnect the HDD, and wipe it...

For the OS licensing
Read and do this before you change any parts:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/20530/windows-10-reactivating-after-hardware-change

For the actual booting up?
Three possibilities:
1. It boots up just fine
2. It fails completely
3. It boots up, but you're chasing issues for weeks

Prepare for a full wipe and reinstall of the OS drive.

If I wipe my SSD and get a fresh OS will my HDD still work as it did in my old build?

There are just all the game files from steam and stuff. Uni work, Photos and old videos from dead phones, A few apps like Fraps but that's about it

I just checked and cause it was a prebuilt system it doesn't have an SSD so windows are on the 3TB HD. I'm gonna have to reformat that if i want to use a SSD for windows

Copy your stuff back and use it as desired.
