Hello all,

In desperate need of assistance here. Over the last few months I have been experiencing problems where my laptop (Lenovo Y700) when turned off or restarted gets stuck in boot with this message: "PXE- E61 media test failure check cable". If I connect the laptop to my ethernet connection, I get a message about booting from ethernet, and still able to not start.

I've read everywhere about this problem (normally something similar) being a failed harddrive or SSD, but I believe this is NOT the case because after about 5 days, the laptop mysteriously lands up on my windows 10 login screen after leaving it on to keep booting and rebooting. The computer returns to working perfectly (no reduction in performance or storage problems), until it automatically restarts or the battery dies.

I went to the Lenovo's only suggested supplier and maintenance company and they tried to charge me 15000 ZAR ($1200) to replace the motherboard - a complete scam after speaking to many professionals in the business. The laptop is about 1 and a half years old and out of the 1 year lenovo warranty. I believe that the problem may lie in the connection of the SSD cables, specifically the SSD due to Win10 being installed there and it preventing boot-up. I have opened and reconnected the HDD and SSD with no luck and I am out of ideas to what my be the problem or how to solve it.

Please, please help.

if it has been fine, and then just started happening, i would place blamn on the hard drive failing.

no clue on given laptop, you might try opening it up, and see if you can disconnect hard drive and reconnect it. then again hard drive might be built directly onto motherboard.

there also might be some sort of cable pending on mounting location, it says pciE connected hard drive, but there still might be a cable to properly route the connection between the hard drive and were it connects to motherboard.

motherboards and chips including solid state drives and chips on them. the connections between chips and the circuit boards can also break. or chips begin falling off the circuit boards. example laptop was dropped onto the floor...

Thanks for your reply SkyNetRising, after disabling the Network boot option - I get blue messages saying "Lenovo Recovery System boot failed" and "Default Boot device missing or Boot failed, Insert Recovery Media and Hit any key. Then select 'boot manager' to choose new boot device or to Boot Recovery Media".

Stupid Question: Is there a way to test the drives without being able to boot to the OS?

So I was able to do the check after my computer mysteriously turned on again. Here is the only drive with problems - everything was okay except for C7 :

Not sure what it means, or how to fix it - please assist further.

the motherboard in and of it self might be bad.

easiest solution is pull the hard drive out and place in another computer to see if it works. or place another hard drive into the laptop and see how it works.

all of the above may mean, creating a backup DVD, or needing a usb stick, so you can create recovery media, to reinstall operating system and possibly some programs that came with laptop originally.
