SSD and HDD Question?

I'm planning out my first ever gaming PC and I have an older HDD that was used in a previous office PC that my family used to use. This HDD has a copy of Windows Vista already booted onto the HDD. I want to buy an SSD for my build (probably 120gb's or so) to use for a boot drive for Windows 8.1 and also store a few programs. However, since I do gameplay recording, save lots of pictures, and edit my videos, I want to use the old HDD from the previous system in my build to reduce the cost.

To summarize, I just want to know if I can use an SSD for Windows 8.1, but still use the old HDD that already has Windows Vista on it. Any help will be appreciated.

Is the old drive SATA or i.d.e. ?

The HDD is Sata 2

If it is SATA which is most likely with a vista era (2005?) pc, you can use the old drive as a storage slave and it is most likely windows 8 will recognise all old files on it. Bear in mind this drive is ancient and should not be relied upon long term;its nearing its mean time to failure.

I don't plan on using the old HDD as a long term solution, but I have a strict budget and buying a new HDD would go over my budget. I plan on using the old HDD for probably only a month or 2 after I build the system.
