Hello,

I have a new machine I just built it has a i5-2500k CPU and ST1000DM003 hard drive. I want to take advantage of Intels smart response technology. I want to buy a 64gb solid state drive that would be a good match building a RAID system using the 64gb as a buffer. Since you guys are the experts. What solid state drive would you recommend?

Solution
Using Intel's smart response is dumb. Sorry, needed to add that cut because the latest reviews, and I admit that the review on the Intel smart response is a bit dated (over 6 months old) the best boost you can expect from an Intel solution is in the range of 50 MBps. Alternatively, with OCZ Synapse drives and Dataplex driver you can get up to 400 MBps performance. Generally the OCZ Synapse gives you double the speed of smart response. http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/52038-ocz-synapse-64gb-ssd-cache-drive-review.html

You can set up the Synapse to cache either a single HDD or a single RAID array (which is seen as a single HDD).

That is what I recommend.

😱 😱 😱

So, rather then go with Intel's SRT I could use OCZ Synapse and their Dataplex driver to get a much faster SSD performance level? I have not installed the SSD I purchaed but could return it and get the 64gb OCZ instead. It is less then 20 dollars more then the SSD drive I purchased.

Is there someplace I could get detailed instuctions? Would my system need to be setup with RAID in the BIOS or is it possible to use the OCZ drive and drivers with my existing non-raid system?

Thanks for the help !!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
