Hi there,

could you guys please help me choose between using SSD as boot drive or Intel SRT Cache.

My system Specs:
Dell Vostro 5470
OS: Windows 8.1 Professional
Processor: Intel Core i5-4200U @1.60Ghz 2.30Ghz
RAM: 4 Gb
VGA: Invidia GForce GT740M

I am planning to get:

OR
http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/mydigitalssd-64gb-super-cache-2-25mm-sata-iii-6g-msata-mini-ssd-with-fnet-hybridisk-software-mdmsm-sc2-064/

Depends on which will give the best performance boost on the budget.
Could you give me some explanation why should I choose one.

Thank you in advance for your help, appreciated :)

Solution
1. Yes. That is almost exactly my set up. I have quite a few more things installed, and currently ~70GB used space.

2. If you're thinking of using that as a cache for an HDD, don't. The files that end up on the HDD won't need that boost, and you're just crippling the size of the SSD.

3. No.

Hi USAFRet,

Thank you for your very fast answer.
If I may ask follow up question.

1. Would 128GB be enough for the OS + Application (Ms. Office, Adobe CS, Lightroom)? I don't play games, at least not yet.

2. I've read on forums that you can partition the SSD & use the ex. 20 GB partition for caching HDD data. Would it be possible for my system? (If I have spare storage left from the OS and Applications)

3. Will those setup drain my battery? (installing SSD)

Thank you for your answer :)
