SSD in Gateway SX2110

Call me crazy but I want to upgrade this Gateway for my wife. I've already placed an additional 2GB RAM in it and want to add a Samsung 840EVO SSD. There are only 2 SATA-II conx on the MB (Acer D1F-AD). Will I need to remove the optical drive to ADD the SSD (as opposed to replacing the existing HDD)? Can anyone offer a step-by-step mechanical process (I think can handle the OS migration part)?
