SSD installation help

hello all,
i just got the Samsung EVO 120GB SSD and the installation instructions tells me i need a sata to usb cable to plug it in the usb first and transfer whatever data i want before i put the SSD in the mounting bracket. Do i have to do this or can i just chuck it straight into the bracket and transfer my data later when its in my PC. By the way i'm not putting the OS on it, just moving some games over to it.

The usb cable is usually only for replacing an hdd in a single bay system, especially single hdd laptops. Plug both into the motherboard and go from there

P.S. Not using the ssd for OS is a waste. the SSD should always have the OS first and then games.

Is your OS on an SSD already?

If not, I'd highly recommend the OS on the SSD. That's really the main reason to get an SSD is for windows. It's not going to increase your frames per second on games, just loading times. So if you keep your OS on a normal hard drive, and then have an SSD storing games, it is kind of a waste of an SSD.

If your OS is already on a second SSD, then just ignore this message. I was never here.

Using 20 gigs of it to store your OS there will give a bigger performance and load time boost than just moving games over.

Also, your computer will be booting up in under 10 seconds.

You can't just move the operating system over, you have to have a CD to install it from.

If you do, follow these steps:

1.) Disconnect all SATA devices except the SSD and CD-ROM
2.) Install Windows via the CD-ROM
3.) Connect the old hard drive and delete all software you wan't on the SSD
4.) Download the software you want to store on the SSD directly to the SSD and install it there just to be sure that you don't get any trouble

Will my key code for my windows 7 SP1-OEM work when i put the disk in and install OS

If that license code has been used with that CD and motherboard before, it'll work
