I got an SSD from a friend after it suddenly stopped working. I have now connected it to my PC via a USB SATA adapter, it doesn't appear at all in Windows Explorer and the disk management sometimes shows the hard drive as not initialized and then not at all. The hard drive has no visible damage.

Connect it with internal sata cables.
And show screenshots from
Device Manager - disk drives and storage controllers sections expanded,
Disk Management,
Windows Storage Spaces (Control Panel\Storage spaces)

Either bad adapter/bad power delivery to drive or bad drive.
