SSD laptop upgrade

Hi, I'm trying to work out if I can upgrade my laptop to an SSD drive. I spoke with Samsung technical help online and apparently they do not support my laptop because it requires 'specialist' knowledge.

My laptop is a Samsung NP-QX411-W01US, i5, 8GB ram and a standard 750GB HD that came with it. I can't work out if it's SATA or PATA but I assume the former? I'm thinking something like this - http://amzn.to/1CrRNX2 - would do the trick.

Is that possible?

I strongly doubt any modern laptop would use a PATA drive. That SSD should work fine.

Edit: Just remember that if you do upgrade to an SSD you will need an OS disk to reinstall Windows. It has to be the same OS the laptop came with.

Hi Aykiddo, thanks for your help. The laptop came with Windows 7 and it's running 8.1. Disk is long since lost so I was hoping I could clone the current drive?

You can clone it as long as you have the product key for the Windows 8.1. It will ask you to reactivate once its on the new drive.
