SSD m2 960 on Sniper G1 z97

I have the gigabyte sniper G1 z97 with Saphire r9 280x and looking to add another ssd.
Can I connect the Samsung 960 m2 to the other pcie x8 lane? Will it affect the gpu performance?

Having a device on the second PCI-E slot will drop the primary PCI-E X16 slot to X8 mode. That shouldn't hamper your performance(as it's minimal if anything).

Directly no. Your motherboard doesn't have M.2 slot.
You'd have to use m.2 to PCIE adapter card.
Why not use regular sata ssd? Like Samsung 860 Evo?

2. Does the r9 280x needs x16? If not, what is x16 needed for?
