Hi, my computer has been working for months and suddenly when I turned it on it wouldn't boot from my ssd. It only appears when I have the legacy option enabled (legacy & uefi/legacy only). When I select it to boot within legacy mode, it goes to the "reboot and select proper boot device or insert media in selected boot device and press a key". Settings weren't changed, however in the boot priority section in bios only my storage hdd is visible. The ssd still functions to a degree as it is accessable on another pc to view its storage, but is unable to boot because that computer only accepts UEFI. Any ideas on how to remedy this issue?

I have a:
gigabyte ga-970a-d3p (motherboard)
Samsung Evo 850 250gb ssd

Cheers,
Dash

Sure thing mate.

This a quite common issue if you've installed Windows with both drives connected to the motherboard during the installation process. Sometimes some of the system files might be written on the secondary drive by mistake and lead to problem such as yours. Usually you're not able to boot to Windows if you remove the secondary drive, because of the missing files. Just make sure that whenever you install Windows on your computer, you always have only the drive you are installing the OS to, connected to the motherboard.

Anyways, the important thing is that everything is OK now.
Cheers!
Hey Dash!

The first thing you should try, is to backup any important data which you might have on that SSD and download an SSD diagnostics tool to test. This is necessary to make sure that the drive doesn't have any faults.
If nothing comes up when you scan the drive, you should try the SSD with a different port and SATA cables on yours (in case you haven tried it already). If that doesn't help, then I'd suggest that you try to reset or update the BIOS/UEFI of your motherboard, to see if the issue still persists afterwards.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

hi, i tried what you suggested but ended up taking it to a pc guy, the problem was that the os partitions were somehow spread out between my two drives and the link or something was broken, but thanks nevertheless for your help :)
