I am not spending >$75 on storage. Gonna wait the 256GB version drop to this price. 256GB probably gonna be "more than enough" for average user "for now".
[citation][nom]milktea[/nom]How about tracking SSD reliability? Are prices and reliability falling at the same rate?[/citation]
In case you hadn't heard, SSD's are literally an order of magnitude more reliable than a mechanical hard drive based on MTBF (mean time between failure).

[citation][nom]voodoobunny[/nom]Yeah, but check the reviews on it[/citation]
Petrol should be fine with latest firmware 😉, i had to rma mine (advance rma), but i did testng for 1 week with new firmware before sending it in and it fixed all data problems.
Wish the new firmware was available before I made an advance rma request our i would of saved myself some money do to currency exchange. (they charge $125 US and its on the visa 1 month, but it cost me $133cad and i got back $123cad)
So when my next major upgrade comes... lets talk about December or about, prices will be kinda better and i would be able to grab a new boot drive! awesome! thanks sane competition and marketing, better technology for us >😀 !
[citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]Until they cost the same as traditional hard drives I see no reason to get one.[/citation]
Really? cause I got my brother an m4 128 GB SSD and when we boot up at the same time he can be in game before I'm even fully loaded into my Operating System, makes me so jealous I just want to go buy an SSD asap, I need to replace my dying drive anyway 😀
SSD and HDD is a good combination. they are both considered cheap now as they role and did the job done. i hope this trend is not intended to as clearing (old) stocks.. but a trend to continue to get better and cheaper/affordable, a winning to us as consumer.
I got the 240GB OCZ Agility 3 the other day and I'm happy with the performance, the overall performance is a lot quicker then it was before even on a SATA II Motherboard.

Not sure where you got that information from. But there's an SSD article at Tom's indicating that "MTBF tells you nothing about reliability."
And most sites indicates that the failure rate of SSDs are on par with Hard Disks.
I like SSD, they are great for just OS and Apps. But I only trust my data on a tried & tested 10k VRaptor.
I got a small one for my OS partition. It's made the single biggest difference to overall performance since I doubled my memory from 2GB a few years back. Definitely worth the purchase.
All we need now is SSDs with lower speed higher capacity and even better price ratio, in order to show the middle finger to Seagate, WD and their.. flooded factories!
their factories probably got flooded for like a month or 2. right now, im almost 100% convinced that the manufacturers are just bull$hiting hat they cant get back to normal production so that they can charge consumers waay more than they should be
Every morning I check my email for SSD advertisements. For about the last week I have been thinking to myself that SSD prices have really been coming down.
I'm still don't see a reason to even look at anything other than SSD's with premium extended life toshiba toggle mode flash. At at $0.83 per GB for the Chronos Deluxe DX, it's the proverbial "no brainer".

i know right? the other drives that have this toggle nand is the vertex 3 max iops (240gb probably hovering around the 500$ mark), the patriot wildfire (240gb around 450), and the sandisk extreme (last time i checked, they sold the 120gb for 99$)

What you mean??? Win7 Ultimate uses approximately 14GB with all the features enabled and with the most recent updates, and with some games, movies and downloads, you reach 256GB fairly easily...
I personally have used 1TB of my 2TB Drive within 6 months...
