SSD Raid 0 degrading performance

Was wondering if anyone can answer a question for me.About a month ago I installed x2 SSD's in RAID 0.After a fresh install of Windows 7 I ran the AS-SSD benchmark and I was getting around 430mb/s read and 180mb/s write.Now when I do the same test i'm getting 250mb/s read and less than 50mb/s write.The stripe size of the RAID is 16bits.Do you think this may have to do with Trim Support?

The SSD's in question are both SATA II.One is a Patriot Torqx 2 and the other is a OCZ Vertex 2.I have all the latest Intel management drivers install for RAID and SATA drivers.

Maybe, but your performance is not any better than a single drive. I would try an install on a single drive, do an install using AHCI, and then try some benchmarks.

That's a very small stripe size. And the best RAID arrays use identical drives.

I would not recommend running RAID 0 on SSDs, you lose TRIM support in most cases which can lead to performance degradation over time (although not to the amount you're seeing) and you won't really see any real world performance gain.

The read speed isn't exactly a problem because it's still fast even though it's way below what it should be.But it's the write speed that is worrying because it actually slows down my CPU to the point where it sounds like a skipping CD track.

I should probably add that I have write-back cache enabled.

I'm thinking the problem that's causing this is the stripe size.So I might just reinstall and change the stripe size.I was thinking of a 64bit stripe size.Does anyone else have any reccomendations?

I don't RAID ssds, but I do hdds and a 64 bit stripe size seems much more reasonable that a 16.

Well I was told that with such fast seek times from SSD's that 16 bit would be optimal.But i'm not sure about that.I feel that maybe it's a bit to small for my needs.But it may not be and it might be something else that's causing the problem.But like I said earlier it was the same stripe size but I was getting 430mb/s read and 180mb/s write.
