Question SSD SATA drive , how big

The 2017 Dell Inspiron had a 256gb SATA SSD in it which has failed. Would a 512 GB SSD work in it or would the drive controller/motherboard limit the size that of SSD that can be used. It is using a 2280 size.

There is no limit. You can use also 1TB, 2TB or 4TB M.2 drives. Those are expensive though.

That is what I thought but the Dell support is no help.
