I've had my PC working fine for about two years.

One day as I booted it up, it didn't load Windows and took me straight to bios. When I tried to set the boot priorities again I noticed that the BIOS wasn't even detecting the SSD anymore, only my DVD drive and hard drive.

I've updated my motherboard BIOS and double checked all the cables to make sure they're where they should be and it still won't detect it. What could the problem be?

My motherboard is an Asus Z87 Gryphon and my SSD is a Mushkin Chronos Sata III 2.5"

Thanks in advance for your help.

unplug your ssd and if you have other pc/laptop try to plug it in and run the crystal disk info and check the s.m.a.r.t paramenters... Also check if the TBW is lower than especificated for your SSD:.

I'm terribly sorry for necroposting, I haven't had access to a PC since I can't use my damaged one and I was able to find a laptop to use recently.

I purchased a Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter to plug in my SSD into this laptop but it doesn't seem to detect it. It won't show up on "This PC" window with the other drives and it won't show up in disk management. Also, when I plug in the USB, it doesn't make the jingle that plays when it detects any other USB device.

What should I do so it can read the SSD?

see if you detect the ssd this way: go to cmd -> type "diskpart" -> then type "list disk" now see if your ssd is detected. on the list you must see all the drives your pluged in you pc. reply what do you see.
