ssd with windows from laptop to pc

Hi, will it work, if i put ssd from laptop with windows, to desktop pc? like if the windows will work (the laptop is not working so i am buying new desktop and i dont know if i need to buy new windows, or i can use the ssd with windows from my laptop)

*edit i am buying components, which i will put together

That will not work, for a couple of reasons.

1. It simply won't boot up. OK, maybe a 5% chance that it does.

2. The license for that Win 8.1 install belongs to the laptop. Will not work on all new desktop hardware.

You need to purchase a whole new OS for your new desktop.

Windows 8 licenses on OEM machines like your laptop were permanently bound to that computer and are not transferable. Sorry, but you will either need to buy a new OS or use a trial version of Windows 10.

You do have an option to upgrade the laptop to win10 and then tying the activation to your microsoft account instead of the hardware. Once that is done you can move the OS to the new pc but that leaves the laptop without an OS if you planned to keep using it.
