the error i get when the old hdd is disconnected is “reboot and select proper boot drive” but like i said this error doesn’t occur when the hdd is connected but my ssd is the one with the windows installation not my hdd it doesn’t make sense
Actually it makes perfect sense.this error doesn’t occur when the hdd is connected but my ssd is the one with the windows installation not my hdd it doesn’t make sense

i think i figured it out and that seemed to be the issue so i moved the partition from my old hdd to the ssd, i have no clue how that happened but it’s fixed thankfullyFor whatever reason, it appears your boot files are on the HDD, not the SSD.
Did you recently install Windows onto the SSD? Was the HDD connected when you did that?
yeah i guess that’s what happened, i was able to move it over and it works nowActually it makes perfect sense.
When you installed windows on SSD, you had HDD connected. Right?
Well .. when you do that, bootloader partition can end up on HDD and windows gets installed on SSD.
Without bootloader system is unbootable. You remove HDD and you can't boot into windows anymore.
