ST2 - Baffled by wants.

Honestly, you do your best for these little Sims and they stab you in the
back.

Take Lisa Simpson. Working away in politics, moved back home to help Marge
following Homer's sad death. Nice girl, nice friends, 'refeened' tastes and
what is her secret lifetime want? To be a Criminal Mastermind.

I haven't checked Bart yet, being as he has his lurking in the bin waiting
to be rehoused again, but as HE is hand in glove with the Sim-mafia I
suppose his lifetime want is to become a mad inventor, or something equally
unrealistic.

Marge, who has cheered up in leaps and bounds since putting on her widow's
weeds wants to see six children married off.
SIX? Dream on, Marge!!!!
Or has Vidcund got plans I know not wot of?

Granny - tutting. Who is in control of these Sims, them or me?

As far as I can tell, they are based on their aspiration. The same way
a Romance sim always seems to want to get a job in the slacker career,
Fortune(or is it knowledge? i can't remember :p) sims seem to have a
lifetime want to be a Criminal Mastermind. As far as I can tell,
they're personality doesn't seem to come into it at all.

I find it highly vexing to make a nice, quiet mannered sim ... who
wants to be a criminal mastermind.. which doesn't fit in with my
storyline at ALL. And yes, you don't have to fulfill the lifetime want,
but that's one aspect of the game play that is then unavailable to
you...

Fortunately, I found a hack that allows you to change the lifetime
want. :D It's still random, but you can just keep changing it until you
get something more suitable. I think I got it either from mod the sims2
or variousimmers. It looks like a grandfather clock, you can adjust the
lifetime want along with controlling the final timer for college.

Aha, I found it! :)

I suspect you're right that it's tied to the sim's aspiration, but some
of them aren't limited to just one type of aspiration.

While lifetime wants like "have 20 simultaneous best friends", "woohoo
with 20 different sims" and "have 6 grandchildren" seem to be limited
to one specific aspiration each (popularity, romance and family,
respectively), some of them aren't. Criminal Mastermind and Hall of
Famer, for instance, seem to be possible lifetime wants for all of the
aspirations. Celebrity Chef seems to be limited to the aspirations
that aren't knowledge and fortune. Chief of Hospital Staff also is
shared between two or more aspirations.

The trouble is, that if these wants are just as likely to occur as any
other, you're going to get a hell of a lot of them based on the fact
that all or a larger percentage of your sims have that as a
possibility.

I think that's what happened.

I'm pretty sure you can change them without resorting to a hack if you
get a young adult through half of a University career. When you have
the option to change their aspiration, select yes. I think the
lifetime aspiration may change then (no protection against getting the
same one again if it's an option for that new aspiration) even if you
select the same aspiration they had before.

I have been disappointed with the lifetime aspirations. I don't think
they were balanced properly. Not only does no sim want to hit the top
of any of the University careers, (which conflicts with my desire to
have my sims fulfill those wants) it seems that a good 40-50% of my
sims have either the Criminal Mastermind or the Hall of Famer lifetime
wants. Throw in Celebrity Chef and you'll have over half of my sims'
lifetime wants represented. It's a real letdown when I have, say, six
adult sims in a house and five of them have these three wants. That's
way too often the case in my game.

And I suppose none of the University careers showed up because if one
of my adult sims got that as a lifetime aspiration after I loaded up
University, that would have been a huge pain in the ass. But I can't
imagine that they couldn't have limited those options to teenagers when
the game was installed, and limit it to sims either made as teenagers
or becoming teenagers with a birthday. I just wish they had that same
restraint vis-a-vis elders, as one of my elders who has only one child
got the "see six children married" aspiration, and another seems to
want 20 grandchildren.

Just because they have a lifetime aspiration doesn't mean we have to
fulfil them. Ungrateful little buggers.

Now that Nanny has 10 kids, she wants 20 grandkids. And all her eldest
wants to do is woohoo- and she's not even got a crush on anyone, or a
romance sim.

Yes!!! I just checked out a few of my families, both maxi and my own and I
have a real clutch of wannabe criminals. I could understand it if they were
all nastyish, but some of these Sims are pleasant. Don't make sense.
perhaps it is just randomised?

When I saw my budding politician want to be a Crim. Mastm. I thought it
might be a comment on modern politics. Seems I was reading too much into it.

Well, I think *they* have more control than we think. Without hacks and
cheats, you can't really change their personality or interests. Once
created, they seem to have little minds of their own. I wonder if God feels
like this sometimes, too? LOL

What I think is absolutely hilarious is when a sim with the lifetime
aspiration of wanting to be a criminal mastermind autonomously falls in love
with a sim who wants to become Captain Hero. I've got two couple like that
married in my game. It's hilarious to watch one dress in the black and
white striped robber outfit while the other one is dressed as a cop. They
kiss each other tenderly and go off to work in their respective career
fields and I wonder how many times the cop has had to arrest the robber on
the job? <g>

Yes, I'd say about 40-50% of my sims want to be a criminal mastermind too.
It is disappointing. There are what, 14 careers with University? But apart
from those three, none of the other 11 seem to be represented.

However, yesterday I did have a sim *change* her lifetime want when she
moved house (via the family bin). Maybe this is one hack-free solution.

<clip> Well I am miffed. I have just checked a few of my Sims and appart
from the usual illogical spread of lifetime aspirations one of my full-time
mothers wants to earn 100,000 Sim.

She is going to have to do a heck of a lot of painting to reach that amount.

Download the "better money tree" from MTS2, which gives you 500 simoleons
per harvest and can be harvested two or three times a day. Better yet, get
two of them. Put them by a window like a decoration. Of course, unless you
download the "save the trees" hack, you'll have neighbors and maids
harvesting when you aren't looking. Those are a great way of earning money
and not going to work. Great when the kidlets are toddlers.

When one of my sims has this want I always put a bar and coffee counter
(forgotten what it's called!!) in the community lots. With the mood painting
from Sim Chaotic they can stay there for days earning thousands.

But-but-but!!! I don't want any more game hacks until it is absolutely
necessary. It's bad enough motherloding my Sims when I go on a building
spree.

Now I think 'ont, the mother in question is brandi broke who had a windfall
from a long-forgotten uncle which enabled her to move into a new house in
Little Dumpling and stay at home looking after her latest thing.
Is she now feeling guilty spending all that money from an uncle she didn;t
even bother to visit when he was alive? And he loved her so... Shame! Shame!
Yup, that will do it. Get that new kid packed off to school and she can
become business minded. Perhaps great Uncle Harry left some sort of
enterprise that is just waiting for her hand on the tiller. Pity she will
have to start in the post room, but that's the way it goes.

Yes I meant serving coffee and working as a bartender. Unfortunately no

Now there's a profession Maxi missed out on.
I never thought of bar tending. Once the kid has gone to school she could be
off all day. Yeah, that's good. 8)))
Better than making her a ruddy business woman. And she can socialise that
way.
I like it. 8)))
